Engine Bay

 Engine & Engine Bay

As bought photo.

Oct 2020. -Photos below are after cleaning, painting, fitting a new high top radiator, as heater hose connects to bottom of rad, plus new top and bottom hoses and added a few shiny bits to coil and carb.

Mechanically Tightened lots of loose nuts all over the car including the distributor clamp bolt!

Checked and adjusted gaps on tappets, distributor and plugs.

Removed sump, cleaned out sludge and fitted new gaskets. Did engine oil and filter change together with gearbox and back axle oil change.

Checked brake shoes, all round, bleed brakes and adjusted so they are all good now.

Adjusted carb, link that lowers jet was bent preventing the choke from operating smoothly. Replaced fuel line with new and removed fuel filter. Replaced choke cable with new.

Greased all suspension, hub bearings and prop shaft points.

Replaced one bad tie rod rubber on near side. Rest look okay but will do others when I have figured out the best way!

5 Nov. 2020 -Fitted new speedo cable. Needle does not wave at me anymore. Also added lagging to exhaust pipe from manifold to box.

Interior

 Interior

October 2020

Work carried out to date.

No extra work done to metal floor. See later photos of existing floor condition as bought.

Added underlay underneath what appeared to be nearly new carpets. plus bought a couple of front Morris 1000 rubber mats.

Cleaned rear seat, back and seat, and treated with leather balm. Note: front seats have been recovered quite recently by the look of them. Will look to restore back seat, perhaps further, later.

Removed all door cards, carried out some straightening on them, and examined internal of doors. Some evidence of repairs to nearside doors at the bottom but do not need further work IMO. Found window stop bracket in box of supplied spares and fitted to door missing one. Fitted internal plastic liners to all doors.

Removed passenger glove box liner and lid, straightened liner a bit and refitted. Also bought new glove box liner for drivers side and fitted that.

Removed existing parcel shelf as it was just a 6 inch wide piece of timber screwed to the metal parcel shelf bracket. Decided not to have a parcel shelf as IMO it looks better without.

Fitted new interior drivers mirror head to existing arm.

Removed non functioning switch from dash and covered hole with Morris badge.

Added period tax disc.

Got internal light switch working by extending existing wiring that had not been reconnected when new headlining was fitted.

Pics of parcel shelf removed...below

Floor

Floor condition as bought.

No work needed on inside floors just added carpet underlay. Existing carpets looked almost new.

Seats

Condition as bought but after cleaning up rear seat. Front seats had been recovered. back seats look original. Bought a pair of black Morris 1000 front rubber mats.

Headlining

Headlining looks new. Had to trim tension wires under dash, both sides and extend electrical wiring a few inches to allow interior light to be connected. It now works fine.
Also tightened sun visor brackets to make visor stay up, out of the way.

Gloveboxes

Passenger side is original and drivers side is new (white)

New glove box liner needed shortening in depth by about 1.5 inches. Needed to do this to both match the passenger side liner depth and to make the installation easier so as to put less strain on the wiring behind the dash. When cut off this made the shape at the opening smaller than the lid opening. To adjust I slit the right hand side, as fitted, and opened up a gap to restore the size. I was then left with a wedge sized gap. I used some of the liner cut from the front, formed it to shape to cover the gap, using a hair dryer to soften the material to get the correct shape. then glued over the gap. Also had to add the hole for access to the speedo fastening screw. No hole provided at all in supplied item. Liner is held in place by the 4 screws  that also hold the doors in place. Just measure the hole positions carefully using the hinges fastened to the door as a guide.

Boot

 Boot

Condition of boot as bought but with floor removed..

Boot floor and seat back painted matt black, new floor fastenings all round plus boot carpet bought and sound deadening added to boot lid.

Millie the Morris Minor

 October 2020

Work done on the exterior since purchase.

Removed front and rear bumpers to add missing over rider brackets. Replaced all and tightened all loose nuts.

Added missing split pin to bonnet release mechanism that caused a near major disaster as I couldn't open the bonnet. Took a lot of tries and luck to release the bonnet.

Re-shimmed drivers door hinges to get a better fit.

Removed old front quarter light, vent, rubbers and replaced with new, both sides.

Oiled stiff window winding mechanisms, on all four doors, to free up and tidied seals between glass and door.

Fitted drivers door wing mirror.

Examined all under floor chassis, panels and inside wings. All very good and sound. Needed little work except the odd touch up with a light spray of black chip protector.

Added exterior paint on unpainted screw heads holding finishing panel below doors and touched up wing arch edges.

Added rubber seal to boot surround.

Adjusted position of rear lights slightly to make them more symmetrical. Only a few millimetres out but things like that bug me!

Fitted new petrol filler cap with chain attachment.
